ART OF WAR POSTER

This is a poster from my Graphics II class. The concept is based on a quote from The Art of War by Sun Tzu. The quote is “Be extremely subtle, even to the point of formlessness. Be extremely mysterious, even to the point of soundlessness. Thereby you can be the director of the opponent’s fate.” This idea of having control over an enemy by being silent and mysterious is represented by a masked face which takes the shape of a sword. The shape of the mask is implied by the negative space surrounding the positive shape which forms the sword. This black negative space, in which the mask is implied to be hidden, conveys the feeling of mystery and “formlessness” from the quote.
